Latest on Coronavirus: Brazil

Researchers at São Paulo State University (UNESP) in Araçatuba, Brazil, have developed a computational tool that acts like a “COVID-19 accelerometer,” plotting in real time the rate at which growth is accelerating or decelerating in more than 200 countries and territories – More info here.

Researchers at the Heart Institute (INCOR) in the University of São Paulo’s Medical School (FM-USP) in Brazil have begun a pre-clinical trial of potential COVID-19 vaccine formulations – More info here.

The University of Campinas’s (UNICAMP) established a Task Force to iscuss and prepare the University to face the Covid-19 effects. The Covid-19 Task Force also worked along with the Institute of Biology by working and adapting their research projects to envisage the pandemic matters. Technology Park of Viçosa (tecnoPARQ) has offered to support the production of technological innovations in combating Covid-19 at UFV, for the production of facial shields (doindglês, Face Shield), using 3D printing as an emerging technology – More info here.

The Technology Park of Viçosa (tecnoPARQ) / UFV companies have been working to combat covid-19 too. For instance, MedYes’s data  technology system in the context of COVID-19 performs in the version for patients as a virtual health assistant that organizes medical history, allows the monitoring of chronic diseases, assists in the use of medications and enables the sharing of information with the professional health and family members. Another example is the Seduca company. The Sedusa product was designed to reduce the time needed to perform school tasks, in addition to integrating parents, teachers and students.

Porto Digital, an Entrepreneurial Cluster / Technology Park, has launched various initiatives to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. For instance, an open innovation call “OIL Covid Challenge” to support innovative solutions for specific challenges of the Covid19 pandemics – More info on its other initiatives here.

Companies and organizations associated with the São José dos Campos Technology Park (PqTec) have reinveted itself due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For example read here how the Brazilian Aerospace Cluster started a movement of the aerospace sector to create solutions against Coronavirus and the role of PqTec to stimulate and facilitate the connection between companies. The president of the Brazilian National Council of State Funding Agencies (CONFAP) and Fapeal Fábio Guedes represented the Scientific Committee of the Northeast (C4NE) in an audience of the Federal Chamber of Deputies on the COVID-19 – More info here.

Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas  and the largest producer of polypropylene in the United States, Braskem joined partners to donate material to hospitals and communities to fight coronavirus and opened an additional BRL 1 billion credit line for customers in the plastic, solvent and specialty chains – More info here and here.
