Brazil hosts 8th World Water Forum

Held for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere, the 8th World Water Forum begins this Sunday (18 March) in Brazilian capital Brasília. Managers, authorities, researchers and other representatives of the water sector from 110 countries will be gathered in the city to discuss the event’s core topic: Sharing Water
The goal of the event, which takes place every three years, is to promote awareness and discuss the future of water, one of the most important and vulnerable assets on the planet, and to propose solutions to better manage it.
About 10,000 attendees and 45,000 visitors are expected to attend the more than 200 activities of the event, which runs until 23 March. The previous editions were held in Marrakesh, Morocco (1997); The Hague, in the Netherlands (2000); Kyoto, Shiga and Osaka, Japan (2003); Mexico City, Mexico (2006); Istanbul, Turkey (2009); Marseille, France (2012); and Daegu and Gyeongbuk, South Korea (2015).
In addition to the World Water Council (WWC), this year’s event is being organis]ed by the Government of Brazil, through the Ministry of Environment, National Water Agency (ANA), the Federal District Government and the Water, Energy and Sanitation Regulatory Agency of the Federal District (Adasa).
Programme
The presentations and panels, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies of the event, will take place at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Centre.
If you are already in Brasilia for the weekend, you can check out free activities on the theme of water as well. The Citizen Village, located at the Mané Garrincha National Stadium, will be open from 9 a.m. on Saturday (17 March). Activities offered include interactive and technological activities on the topic of water.
Like the Village, the Forum Fair will also be open to all citizens from Saturday at the same time, also at the Mané Garrincha. Visitors will be able to learn more about products, services and other initiatives aimed at companies, governments and society.
In the Expo, another event also at the stadium, countries and companies will set up pavilions for conference participants; it will be open as of 4 p.m. from Sunday (18).
